About Denis CaseyOverview

Prior to establishing Casey Business Consulting, Denis held several senior management roles. He has served as the Managing Director of CIL Precision Ltd, as Division Manager for ABB Ireland, and as Marketing and Sales Manager for ABB Transformers Ltd. He has experience of operating at senior level within large multinationals as well as in smaller privately owned businesses.

He graduated from UCC with an honours Electrical Engineer Degree in 1988 and completed an Executive MBA, coming first in his class, in the same university in 2000. His career has many highlights and some of these are presented below.

Career highlights

Following his graduation from UCC in 1988 Denis joined the Kentz Engineering Group as a Junior Electrical Engineer. The highlight of his career with the company was his appointment as the Lead Electrical Engineer on two large design projects for Saudi Aramco, the state owned oil company of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. During his 7 years with the company Denis gained valuable international experience spending three years in the UK, one year in Japan and undertaking several trips to the Middle East to attend project review meetings.
Following this Denis joined the ABB Group in 1995 as a technical sales engineer for its transformer factory in Waterford. ABB is a global leader in power and automation technology that has operations right throughout the world. As account manager, with responsibility for developing key customers in the UK, Denis played a major role in increasing the factory’s UK market share. This grew from 20% in 1995 to 60% in 2003.
In 2003 Denis took over as Marketing and Sales Manager for the factory. At that time metal and oil prices were soaring and this was having a detrimental impact on the profitability of the factory. Denis developed and successfully implemented a price increase strategy, which reversed the downward price trend experienced in the industry over the previous 15 years. The strategy was so successful that Denis was asked by ABB to introduce the process to other factories in the ABB Group.
In addition, through networking with the ABB Global Sales organisation, Denis identified a new opportunity for the factory in Sweden, a country that was outside of its traditional market territory. Following a development phase the product was launched at a trade show in Gothenburg in 2005. It achieved sales of €300k in the first 6 months and grew considerably in subsequent years.
Following this, at the height of the recession in early 2010, Denis was appointed Division Manager of ABB Ireland’s Power Products Division. In this role Denis implemented a new structure for the sales organisation and re-invigorated the Power Products team. Despite the challenging economic climate the Division maintained its margins, secured new customers and successfully introduced new products to the Irish Market.
In 2012 an approach by an executive recruitment firm resulted in him being appointed as Managing Director of CIL Precision Ltd, a privately owned precision engineering business, based in Waterford. At the time the business was feeling the effects of the recession and needed some direction and focus.
By the time Denis left to establish Casey Business Consulting in 2015 the business was transformed. According to Colm Morrissey, Chairman of CIL Precision “Denis impacted immediately and positively through his commercially focused management style and rounded skill set. During his tenure with CIL Precision he set broad directions and objectives and keenly supported the management in the achievement of same. This led to increases in turnover, profitability, stability and employee morale and generated new business and customers.”

Consulting role

Denis believes there is a need for consultants with what Liam Fox describes in his testimonial as ‘real world business experience’; consultants that understand what it is like to be lying awake at night worrying about the business; consultants that understand that there is more to your business than just a set of accounts; that your business is a living entity with its own culture, characteristics, opportunities and challenges. Understanding these is just as important as understanding the financial aspects of the business.
That is why Denis established Casey Business Consulting in early 2015. He has the knowledge, experience and passion to help you and your business achieve its full potential.
As can be seen from the testimonials included on the website, Denis is already having a positive impact on businesses in the Midlands and South East. Why not join them? Simply call us!
